#1. Sound and Fury (2000)

Storyline: Cousins Heather and Peter Artinian -- ages 6 and almost 2, respectively -- are deaf. Their condition could be changed by a cochlear implant, a device that stimulates hearing. The benefits are obvious, but this documentary focuses on why the children's families face a tough decision. There are concerns about how the device will change the recipient's relationship with deaf culture and whether there can ever be a true connection between those who hear sounds and those who hear only silence.

#2. The Landlord (1970)

Storyline: As his 30th birthday nears, the aristocratic Elger Winthrop Enders (Beau Bridges) finally decides to leave his parents' home, and he purchases an apartment complex in the slums of New York. The coldhearted Elger plans to boot out the current residents and refashion the crumbling dwelling into a luxurious bachelor pad. But after the spoiled young man befriends locals Francine (Diana Sands) and Margie (Pearl Bailey), he abandons his plans and instead focuses on charming his lovely neighbors.

#5. Trust (1990)

Storyline: High school dropout Maria Coughlin (Adrienne Shelly) is having a rough time of it on Long Island. Her father recently died of a heart attack, her boyfriend has left her and she's pregnant. #6. North by Northwest (1959)

Storyline: Madison Avenue advertising man Roger Thornhill finds himself thrust into the world of spies when he is mistaken for a man by the name of George Kaplan. Foreign spy Philip Vandamm and his henchman Leonard try to eliminate him but when Thornhill tries to make sense of the case, he is framed for murder. Now on the run from the police, he manages to board the 20th Century Limited bound for Chicago where he meets a beautiful blond, Eve Kendall, who helps him to evade the authorities. His world is turned upside down yet again when he learns that Eve isn't the innocent bystander he thought she was. Not all is as it seems however, leading to a dramatic rescue and escape at the top of Mt. Rushmore.

#9. My Brother's Keeper (1995)

Storyline: In this fact-based film, twins Bob (John Lithgow) and Tom Bradley (also Lithgow) are both teachers. HIV-positive Tom hopes to receive a bone-marrow transplant from Bob in order to slow the progression of the disease. When his insurance company denies coverage of the procedure, Tom goes public with his condition and files a lawsuit against the corporation. Despite his concerns about how the community will react, his friends, students and family -- especially Bob -- rally around his cause.

#10. Dark Victory (1939)

Storyline: Judith Traherne is at the height of young society when Dr. Frederick Steele diagnoses a brain tumor. After surgery, she falls in love with Steele. The doctor tells her secretary that the tumor will come back and eventually kill her. Learning this, Judith becomes manic and depressive. Her horse trainer Michael, who loves her, tells her to get as much out of life as she can. She marries Steele who intends to find a cure for her illness.
