Storyline: Jesus Camp follows several young children as they prepare to attend a summer camp where the kids will get their daily dose of evangelical Christianity. Becky Fischer works at the camp, which is named Kids on Fire. Through interviews with Fischer, the children, and others, Jesus Camp illustrates the unswerving belief of the faithful. A housewife and homeschooling mother tells her son that creationism has all the answers. Footage from inside the camp shows young children weeping and wailing as they promise to stop their sinning. Child after child is driven to tears. Juxtapose these scenes with clips from a more moderate Christian radio host (who is appalled by such tactics), and Jesus Camp seems to pose a clear question: are these children being brainwashed?—Ken Miller <wkmiller704@yahoo.com>

Tammy Faye Bakker explains what really happened to her and her husband when they lost control of the first and most successful television ministry of its kind. PTL was the first network to launch its own satellite - "broadcasting 24 hours a day until the Second Coming", and the first - and only - to build a theme park, a huge Disney style Christian retreat that Jim built from donations from his loyal viewers. But their fall was as spectacular as their rise. It was the biggest scandal of its day, and one of the big crashes of the late 1980s. The Bakkers found themselves crucified in the court of public opinion for their greed and supposed corruption. Tammy Faye ended up at the Betty Ford Clinic, and Jim was imprisoned. The Eyes of Tammy Faye explores the dark workings of the televangelist industry and shows how Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker were tricked out of their ministry by rival televangelist Jerry Falwell, leader of the moral majority. Falwell, it is claimed, promised help and support, then denounced them, staged a coup, and needlessly forced their ministry into bankruptcy. It shows how Jim Bakker was sentenced to 45 years in prison for fraud, by a judge who at one point stuck his fingers in his ears so as not to hear the defense arguments. The film claims that the accusations that they embezzled money from their ministry were completely false, and that although they lived well, they lived no better than any other televangelists running multi-million dollar ministries. The film follows Tammy Faye as - twelve years later - she tries to put her life back together. We accompany her to the 1200 acre Heritage Park complex which has lain empty and abandoned since the bankruptcy of PTL. And we witness her attempts to come to terms with what she has been through. It is the archetypal story of the boom-and-bust eighties, and of the extraordinary personalities that rule the world of the televangelist industry; and also the story of a unique woman's view of her world.

Movie Details Click Here!Storyline: In the upper crust town of Orbiston Parva which is ostensibly ruled by the wealthy Despard family who owns and operates the town's major employer, the local Tranquilax factory (the product a so-called restorative), the Church of England's Archdeacon Aspinall, who oversees among other churches Holy Trinity, recommends to widowed Lady Lucy Despard, the town's "matriarch", that they hire Reverend John Smallwood, whose family the Archdeacon has known most his life, to fill the currently vacant vicar position for Holy Trinity, Smallwood the type of man who would fit well into the town's upper crust sensibility. Through a clerical error, who the church hires instead is Reverend John Edward Smallwood, a totally different man in almost every respect beyond the job title of reverend, including being somewhat naive in mind. Through what is seen as his unconventional actions both from a church and Orbiston Parva community standpoint, such as hiring Matthew Robinson, a dustman and, gasp, black man, as the church's new warden, and taking into the vicarage the extremely large Smith family, who had been squatting on Tranquilax land now slated for factory expansion, and the adults of which who have decided living off the British welfare system more lucrative than actually working, Smallwood exposes the truly unchristian nature of the townsfolk as a collective, including members of this and other Christian denominational churches. While Smallwood does have a truly positive spiritual effect on some, his actions create an unintentional domino effect which leads to chaos as some cannot break with what they see as their traditions, however unchristian they are.—Huggo

Movie Details Click Here!Storyline: In the early twentieth century, William Spence and Hope Morris Spence are a Methodist minister and his wife. From Central Canada, William forwent his medical school education in Toronto to become a minister, much to the chagrin of Hope's well off parents of Stratford, Ontario. Regardless of the unknowns of their first posting in rural Iowa, the only posting available, Hope married William in 1904. The adjustment to their new life was initially more difficult for Hope, especially their new poor economic standing and having their life not wholly being their own but rather that of their congregation, as William had the focus of this decision on which to drive his purpose. Their life over the next twenty years or so is presented, which eventually includes three children and they being constantly on the move as William gets assigned from one parish to another across the United States. That life is largely characterized by William having a strong mindset, but who will admittedly change his mind if he is proven to be wrong, and Hope generally supporting William in his decisions regardless of the sacrifice to her or the children. The only seeming exception to that latter point is Hope's desire ultimately to settle into one place that they can call home to provide them, especially the children, with a sense of belonging. They believe they've found that place when they move into a parish in Denver following the great war, with a booming economy one that has the money to accomplish what William would like to accomplish for his work in the name of God. William will however find that with money among his congregation comes a sense of entitlement which may not mesh with his view of bringing the teachings of God to the people.—Huggo
