#16. Demolition Man (1993)

Storyline: Frozen in 1996, Simon Phoenix, a convicted crime lord, is revived for a parole hearing well into the 21st century. Revived into a society free from crime, Phoenix resumes his murderous rampage, and no one can stop him. John Spartan, the police officer who captured Phoenix in 1996, has also been cryogenically frozen, this time for a crime he did not commit. In 2032, the former cities of Los Angeles, San Diego and Santa Barbara have merged into peaceful, utopian San Angeles. Unable to stop him with their non-violent solutions, the police release Spartan to help recapture Phoenix. Now after 36 years, Spartan has to adapt himself to the future society he has no knowledge about.

#17. The New World (2005)

Storyline: Captain Smith is spared his mutinous hanging sentence after captain Newport's ship arrives in 1607 to found Jamestown, an English colony in Virginia. The initially friendly natives, who have no personal property concept, turn hostile after a 'theft' is 'punished' violently on the spot. During an armed exploration, Smith is captured, but spared when the chief's favorite daughter Pocahontas pleads for the stranger who soon becomes her lover and learns to love their naive 'savage' way of harmonious life. Ultimately he returns to the grim fort, which would starve hadn't she arranged for Indian generosity. Alas, each side soon brands their own lover a traitor, so she is banished and he flogged as introduction to slavish toiling. Changes turn again, leading Smith to accept a northern-more mission and anglicized Pocahontas, believing him dead, becoming the mother of aristocratic new lover John Rolfe's son. They'll meet again for a finale in England.

Storyline: Charles Bosquier, a role apparently written for French comedy superstar Louis de Funès, is the dictatorial headmaster of a French strict boarding school. No father could be deeper shocked to find one of his own sons miserably failed his exams, and too embarrassed to enroll him for his own summer-school, so he sends Philippe to England as exchange student. Philippe planned to save his sailing plans with friends by sending fat nerd Stephane Michonnet to England using his name, which comes out when Michonnet gets indigestion. Meanwhile Charles expects his spoiled favorite son, Gérard, who tells daddy about all the other schoolboys for money, to chaperon Shirley, the daughter of his English counterpart MacFarrell, but the girl gets all French boys horny, so even his perfect record is soon gravely soiled as dad spies on them, and he and Shirley join Philippe and his friends.
