Lorenzo arrives in the country and is shocked to discover that Pop and his family are so oblivious to financial concerns they haven't ever bothered to do their taxes. Some moonshine, however, and Pop's lovely daughter, Mariette (Debbie Reynolds), help Lorenzo learn to relax, and he decides to help the Larkins' find a legal loophole.

Storyline: Loretta Dalrymple, a homely young country girl comes to New York City and gets a job as a chambermaid in a large hotel. She meets Ed Olson, a photographer out of work, and Dan Riley, a promoter with nothing to promote. When an advertiser offers a reward for a photograph of 'America's Prettiest Girl,", Ed makes a composite photo of all the famous movie stars and society belles and calls the girl in his picture "Dawn Glory." A Dawn-Glory craze sweeps the country, and Loretta, with makeup and new clothes, turns out to be the reincarnation of the picture. Loretta has fallen in love with a newspaper picture of "Bingo" Russell, a famous aviator, and when Dan and Ed ask her to pose as Dawn Glory, she readily agrees, hoping she will get to meet Russell. Storyline: On the last day before summer vacation, Michael Ryan finds an anonymous love letter in his locker. Michael has a crush on Deborah Anne Fimple, who is the most beautiful girl in high school, and his friend Roger Despard convinces him that Deborah has written the letter. Michael writes a love letter to Deborah and asks his best friend Toni Williams, who actually wrote the letter for him, to deliver the letter to Deborah that is also her friend. However, Toni reads the letter and rewrites it to Deborah, who immediately falls in love with the unknown author. Meanwhile, Michael's mother Connie Ryan finds Michael's letter and believes it belongs to her husband George Ryan and Deborah's father Lou Fimple finds Deborah's letter and believes it belongs to his wife Elizabeth Fimple. Storyline: Living in the big city, Anabel Sims, a shop girl at Roger Sanford and Co. Department Store, has matrimony at the front of her mind, but no potential husband discounting "Old Joe" back in her hometown of Greenville, he who she has no intention of marrying even if he asks her. She knows who she will want to marry once she sees the man, and believes that women should be able to take on the traditional male role in the courtship ritual in pursuing that man. It is love at first sight for her when she spots who she will learn is esteemed pediatrician Dr. Madison W. Brown, she indeed using every trick at her disposal to get him to want to marry her. She learns that he is a creature of habit, which makes it easy for her to stalk him, but she also learns that he considers himself a confirmed bachelor, and if he does decide to marry that he wants to choose his own wife rather than the other way around as he quickly learns what she is doing in constantly and "accidentally" running into him. As such, Anabel adds another measure of attack in her plan, namely to have a potential suitor in name only to make Madison believe that he has competition in garnering her affections. The name she comes up with is Roger Sanford, the owner of the department store. Complications ensue when Roger does actually get involved in Anabel's personal life, he a thrice married and currently single playboy who generally does fall for women if he knows someone else is after them, such as an esteemed pediatrician.—Huggo
