#1. Alice (1989)

Storyline: In Czech director Jan Svankmajer's surreal adaptation of Lewis Carroll's classic children's book, Alice (Kristyna Kohoutova) follows her stuffed rabbit through a portal inside her dresser to be whisked away to Wonderland. While the White Rabbit, Mad Hatter and Cheshire Cat are still present, the familiar magical world and bizarre characters have undergone an unsettling transformation in the director's vision through the stop-motion animation of dead animals, puppets and other assorted objects.

#8. The Frog Prince (1986)

Storyline: Princess Zora (Aileen Quinn) of the land of Tartonia feels lonely and sad, seemingly overshadowed by her prettier sister, Henrietta (Helen Hunt), and without many friends. While she's searching for companionship, she happens upon a man-size frog named Ribbit (John Paragon), who is actually a human prince who has been cursed into his current shape. As the pair bonds, Henrietta becomes spiteful of her sister's newfound happiness and tries to put an end to the blossoming relationship.

#10. Neco z Alenky (1988)

Storyline: A memorably bizarre screen version of Lewis Carroll's novel 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland', mixing one live actor (Alice) with a large variety of stop-motion animated creatures, ranging from the complex (the White Rabbit) to the incredibly simple (the Caterpillar, consisting of a sock, a couple of glass eyes and a pair of false teeth). The original story is followed reasonably faithfully, though those familiar with this director's other films won't be the least bit surprised by the numerous digressions into Svankmajer territory, living slabs of meat and all. As the opening narration says, it's a film made for children... perhaps?
