Storyline: When Sunshine Valley settlers face disaster because of a food shortage and medicine shortage, Gene Autry and Dan Coleman, father of Gene's friend Jennifer, buy supplies in Trail's End, but additional supplies promised by the operators of the town's only store, Lola Riker and her partner Ross McLain are not forthcoming. With the aid of the law and his friend Smiley, Gene gets a shipment through to Sunshine Valley, battling off a hi-jacking attempt but too late to prevent a little girl, Judy, from dying because of a lack of medicine. Storyline: Railroad surveyer Clay O'Mara goes after rustlers who murdered his father and brother. Along the way, he first arrests then teams up with outlaw Whitey Kincade, who helps Clay, only to see how long the tenderfoot lasts. Outwitting several attempts on his life engineered by the crooked lawyer who set up his family, O'Mara and a wounded Kincade face the gang. Kincade wanted to protect O'Mara and redeem himself, and goes down shooting.

Storyline: Bart Allison arrives in Sundown planning to kill Tate Kimbrough. Three years earlier he believed Kimbrough was responsible for the death of his wife. He finds Kimbrough and warns him he is going to kill him but gets pinned down in the livery stable with his friend Sam by Kimbrough's stooge Sheriff and his men. When Sam is shot in the back after being told he could leave safely, some of the townsmen change sides and disarm the Sheriff's men forcing him to face Allison alone. #6. Saginaw Trail (1953)

Storyline: Michigan in 1827 was a bit off the beaten path for any B-western, especially one from Gene Autry, so Gene had to shed his Levis (since Mr. Strauss was about 20 years away from stitching his first pair together in San Francisco) and wear a different gun-belt, but the rest of his costume (hat and string-looped shirt) didn't make much of a bow in the authentic direction in this film, which finds the fur empire of Jules Brissac in Michigan's Saginaw Valley wilderness being threatened by advancing settlers. His right hand henchman, Miller Webb, disguised as an Indian, leads renegade Delawares against the settlers. Captain Gene Autry of Hamilton's Rangers is sent to investigate. Gene and his pal Smiley, aided by Randy Lane and Brissac's niece, Flora Tourney, find evidence pointing to the guilt of Brissac and Webb and round them up to make the region safe for settlers.—Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>

#7. Call of the Canyon (1942)

Storyline: Cattle buyer McCoy has run up gambling debts. When Gene and the other ranchers are ready to sell their cattle, he undercuts his bosses price planning to pocket the profit. The ranchers then try to drive their cattle to another market but McCoy's men set off an explosion and a rancher is killed. Storyline: Game Warden Roy Rogers (Roy Rogers) finds the remains of a slaughtered fawn which has been killed by two prison escapees, Bob Oliver (Robert Bice) and Del Roberts (Douglas Fowley.) He finds the sheriff of Susanna Pass is sick and has to take on the task of tracking them down himself, and gets more hindrance than help from ex-bullfighter Carlos Mendoza (Martin Garralaga) and his daughter Rita (Estelita Rodriguez.) Roy checks with local newspaper owner Martin Masters (Robert Emmett Keane)who professes ignorance of the whereabouts of the hunted men, though he is actually in cahoots with Roberts. The latter shows up after Roy leaves and tells Masters he has knifed Bob and left him for dead in the woods. The two have a scheme for dynamiting the lake and hatchery property for the oil underneath, and disposing of the property owner Russell Masters (Francis Ford), Martin's brother, and taking title of the property. #12. Down Dakota Way (1949)

Storyline: Rancher H. T. McKenzie is informed by veterinarian George Fredericks that his cattle are carriers of the hoof-and-mouth disease and must be destroyed. McKenzie hires Steve Paxton to kill the vet and steal his report. Roy Rogers and the Riders of the Purple Sage (Foy Willing, Darol Rice, George Bamby and Al Sloey) on their way to the Cheyenne Rodeo, detour through Sun Rock so that Roy can visit his old schoolteacher Dolly Paxton, Steve's stepmother. Roy becomes involved in the chase of Steve by Sheriff Holbrook. Ruth Shaw tells Roy that the school board has fired Dolly because of Steve, and that she has turned into a crushed and bitter woman still willing to defend her stepson. He learns cattle are being rustled and he suspects the boss Sam Hepburn. But Hepburn suspects the foreman Hyslip and when he catches him with the goods, Hyslip shoots him. Storyline: In a typical western (movie) town (possibly described as 'hick' by someone who possibly hasn't seen the film) Gene Autry and his friend Jack Beaumont are present when the bank is robbed and Sheriff Whiteside is killed. Judge Beaumont, Jack's father, appoints Gene the new sheriff. When Jack learns that his father is making a new will in his disfavor, they quarrel and Jack leaves under suspicious circumstances.
