At first he seeks vengeance for the insult, but broods over it until more than anything, he desires to understand it. Shortly thereafter, Lady Sylvia Marsh returns to Temple House, a nearby mansion, far earlier than expected. As people begin disappearing and acting strangely over the next few days, the skull is stolen from Angus's room, and the watch of a missing person is found in a cavern that was the legendary home of the D'Ampton worm. Angus and James discover that there was an ancient cult that worshiped the worm as a god, and they theorize that the creature somehow survived its destruction, but it was trapped inside the cavern. While the good ol' boys within the Texas penal system send out the blood hounds to search for Eddie, Carl Marzack with the prisoner transfer office decides to search for Eddie on his own largely to settle an old score. While Marzack's colleagues' method is to chase, Marzack is more methodical, believing he just needs to follow the crumbs ultimately with Eddie showing himself in the process. There are a few hiccups along the way, some that help Eddie and some that help Marzack. What may trump all is something stronger within Marzack, namely to show that he is smarter than the rest.—Huggo
