Storyline: Someone has shot and killed Lowe Hammle and everyone at his 22 room apartment is a suspect. The reasons are as varied as the number of people there. There is Dr. Garden, whose son Floyd was killed at the track in a mysterious way which is thought to be a suicide. There is Mrs. Fenwicke-Ralston who was supposed to complete a deal on a horse. There is the blackmailing Nurse Beeton and the niece Zalia, who knows that Uncle is trying to break up her relationship with Woode. Since there is no powder marks on the body, Vance knows that it is murder and believes that a woman did the job. Storyline: Mr. Mason is a salesman at Detridge & Frome who wants to advertise their line of riding clothes. Since they have the rights to famous jockey Peter Randall, who is in Australia, Peter will impersonate him at the Steeple Chase. At the event, he is invited to a party by Cora and sees young Ellen. Since all Ellen and Peter have in common is horses, he continues the charade to woo her. But two gamblers named Maxie and Duke, try to make money on the race by fixing him up with the wild 'Jeepers Creepers'. Storyline: Max Clemington (Robert Cummings) and his father are both looking to marry wealthy women. The task would be far easier if either one of them had any money of their own. Max decides on Martha Gray (Ruth Hussey), but Martha says no when he says that he is poor as she admits she is also. So she accepts the proposal of Sir George Kelvin (Reginald Owen), but changes her mind by the next day. When Florian Clemington (Nigel Bruce) tries to win money gambling for Max's wedding, he loses a bundle. When Max finds out about the debt, he decides to marry the wealthy Lady Joan Culver (Dame Judith Anderson) to keep Florian out of jail.
