Storyline

After being tortured by SS Officer Haake (Donald Pleasence) for helping Jews elude the Nazis, Austrian surgeon Dr. Ravic (Anthony Hopkins) escapes from a concentration camp and flees to pre-occupation Paris, where he lives in exile. When Ravic prevents singer Joan Madou (Lesley-Anne Down) from a suicidal jump off a bridge, a passionate love affair ensues. But just as his life is looking up, Ravic's desire for revenge is reawakened when he encounters his nemesis Haake at a Paris cafe.

Anthony Hopkins plays a surgeon in WWII. This one is well worth your time from the very start. It absolutely reaks of quality. Based on the same author who wrote All Quiet on the Western Front.Hopkins saves Joan Madou from committing suicide after the sudden death of her lover.
