Storyline

In 17th century Massachusetts, a young married woman, Hester Prynne (Meg Foster), whose older husband is in Europe, endures the scorn of her Puritan village when she commits adultery and bares a daughter. Forced to wear a large letter "A" on her dress, Hester refuses to identify her child's father. Hester's husband (Kevin Conway) secretly arrives in town and, learning of her disgrace, seeks to discover if the kindly but guilt-ridden minister, Arthur Dimmesdale, could be Hester's lover.
