A good film noir about treachery and broken hearts. Zachery Smith is great as a sinister psychopath. His character is a mix of an Uncle Charley from Shadow of A Doubt and the character he played in Mildred Pierce, Monte Beragon. This was the first Faye Emerson film I'd ever seen and I've loved her ever since. Excellently shot by the great James Wong Howe, the film's only blemish is the hasty ending that's untrue, and unfitting, to the source material.
