Storyline: During World War II, a soldier is hit by a grenade that deforms his face and leaves him with amnesia. Sometime later, he is recovered and learns that his name is George Taylor and he is discharged from the Army. He finds a letter written by a man named Larry Cravat who would be his pal and he goes to Los Angeles to seek out Larry Cravat to find his identity. He goes to a bank, a hotel, a Turkish bath, and a night-club following leads. He is beaten up by Hubert, the henchman of Anzelmo who dumps him at the front door of the singer Christy Smith who works in a night-club. George tells his story to her and Christy decides to help him. She calls her boss and friend Mel Phillips who schedules a lunch with his friend Police Lt. Donald Kendall and Christy. They learn that Larry Cravat was a private investigator who somehow received $2,000,000 three years ago in Germany from a Nazi who was immediately deceased. Then George receives a tip to go to the Terminal Dock where he meets Anzelmo who explains that Larry Cravat is wanted by the police for the murder of a man at the dock to keep the money. Larry has disappeared and Anzelmo believes George Taylo is the man who was with him and probably the killer. George's further investigation finds that a man named Conroy was a witness to the crime, but he was hit and run by a truck and is interned at the Lambeth Sanatorium. When George meets Conroy, he realizes that the man was stabbed but he tells where he hid the suitcase with the money before dying. Storyline: In the beginning of the Twentieth Century, Lawrence 'Larry' Stevens is an ambitious reporter of The Evening News. One day, he is celebrating with his colleagues and he tells his friend Pop Benson that he would like to know the news in advance before it happens. While they are walking on the street, they see a poster of the clairvoyant Cigolini and his gorgeous niece Sylvia Smith and they decide to go to a theater to see the show. Larry flirts with Sylvia and on his way back home, he overhears Pop on the street and the old man tells that he is waiting for him and gives a newspaper to him. Larry does not give much attention and puts the newspaper in the pocket of his jacket. On the next morning, he finds that the newspaper is an edition of the next day. Larry uses the information to scoop about a hold up in the opera house, becoming the prime suspect of Inspector Mulrooney. Larry dates Sylvia and Pop gives another edition of The Evening News of the next day. Larry becomes a successful reporter and is promoted and has a raise on his job. He plans to marry Sylvia and decides to find the winners of the horse race. But soon he also learns that he will die on the next day. #28. Ladies in Retirement (1941)

Storyline: In the late nineteenth century, Ellen Creed works as the live-in companion to Miss Leonora Fiske, a retired actress who lives in the English countryside and who still retains her theatrical mannerisms. Ellen receives notice that the landlady of her two sisters, Emily Creed and Louisa Creed, who currently live in London, is threatening to call the police to haul them away to an asylum because of their disruptive behavior due to their mentally deranged state. Ellen will not allow her sisters to be institutionalized, and convinces Miss Fiske to allow them to stay with them for a couple of days. Miss Fiske was unaware of their deranged mental state when she agreed and is also unaware that Ellen hopes to make their stay permanent. Both issues eventually become apparent to Miss Fiske, who cannot tolerate how Emily and Louisa disrupt her home life. However, Ellen "convinces" Miss Fiske to take an extended leave from the house, while Ellen tells her sisters that she bought the house from Miss Fiske, which the sisters are not to tell anyone else. The secrets that Ellen is keeping about the situation threaten to bring her and her sisters' lives down when they receive a visit from their distant nephew Albert Feather, a cad who has his own financial well being as his main priority.—Huggo
