Storyline: Examining three common natural disasters and the scientists who study them, this documentary begins on the Caribbean island of Montserrat during a 1995 volcano explosion, where scientist Dr. Marie Edmonds explains her research on how to predict future eruptions. A deadly 1999 Turkish earthquake that killed more than 17,000 people is also discussed by a geophysicist, and finally a team of tornado chasers is followed as they endanger their lives in the name of research.

#5. Downfall (2004)

Storyline: In April of 1945, Germany stands at the brink of defeat with the Soviet Armies closing in from the west and south. In Berlin, capital of the Third Reich, Adolf Hitler proclaims that Germany will still achieve victory and orders his Generals and advisers to fight to the last man. "Downfall" explores these final days of the Reich, where senior German leaders (such as Himmler and Goring) began defecting from their beloved Fuhrer, in an effort to save their own lives, while still others (Joseph Goebbels) pledge to die with Hitler. Hitler, himself, degenerates into a paranoid shell of a man, full of optimism one moment and suicidal depression the next. When the end finally does comes, and Hitler lies dead by his own hand, what is left of his military must find a way to end the killing that is the Battle of Berlin, and lay down their arms in surrender.

#6. Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (1920)

Storyline: Francis, a young man, recalls in his memory the horrible experiences he and his fiancée Jane recently went through. It is the annual fair in Holstenwall. Francis and his friend Alan visit The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, an exhibit where the mysterious doctor shows the somnambulist Cesare, and awakens him for some moments from his death-like sleep. When Alan asks Cesare about his future, Cesare answers that he will die before dawn. The next morning Alan is found dead. Francis suspects Cesare of being the murderer, and starts spying on him and Dr. Caligari. The following night Cesare is going to stab Jane in her bed, but softens when he sees the beautiful woman, and instead of committing another murder, he abducts her. Jane's father awakens because of the noise, and he and some servants follow the fleeing Cesare. Storyline: Filmmaker Pepe Danquart gives us a portrait of Alexander and Thomas Huber, two obsessive mountain climbers. Not content with climbing steep, treacherous mountainsides in a careful way, the brothers strive to break speed records. As they race recklessly up the rocky cliffs, their sibling rivalry emerges. The suicidal daring does not stop with the Hubers, however, as Danquart films the brothers pursuing their extreme hobby as he too dangles from the frightening heights.

Storyline: From July, 1913 to the outbreak of World War I, a series of incidents take place in a German village.
