Storyline: Salaryman Koichi (Shinichi Tsutsumi) awakens one Monday morning with a terrible hangover and no memory of how he got where he is. He struggles to piece together the events of the previous weekend, first discovering evidence that he was at a funeral, which ended very badly. He remembers that things started to get really strange after he met Shingo (Hideki Noda), a barroom fortuneteller, and they became downright dangerous after he befriended Yuko (Yasuko Matsuyuki), a gangster's beautiful moll.

#2. Miller's Crossing (1990)

Storyline: Tom Reagan (played by Gabriel Byrne) is the right-hand man, and chief adviser, to a mob boss, Leo (Albert Finney). Trouble is brewing between Leo and another mob boss, Johnny Caspar (Jon Polito), over the activities of a bookie, Bernie Bernbaum (John Turturro) and Leo and Tom are at odds on how to deal with it. Meanwhile, Tom is in a secret relationship with Leo's girlfriend, Verna (Marcia Gay Harden), who happens to be the sister of Bernie. In trying to resolve the issue, Tom is cast out from Leo's camp and ultimately finds himself stuck in the middle between several deadly, unforgiving parties.

#5. The Way of All Flesh (1927)

Storyline: The story takes place in Milwaukee during the early 1900s with a bank clerk named August Schiller who is happy with both his job and his family. He is tasked with transporting $1,000 in securities to Chicago. On the train he meets a blond seductress who convinces him to buy her a bottle of champagne, and takes him to a saloon. The next morning he awakes alone in a dilapidated bedroom and without the securities. He finds the woman and pleads with her to return the stolen securities. When he also threatens her he is knocked unconscious by the saloon owner and dragged to a nearby railroad track. As the crooks strips him of his ID and papers, Schiller recovers and struggles with the saloon owner, ultimately throwing him into the path of an oncoming train, killing him. Schiller flees and, as he is about to take his own life, sees in a newspaper that he is supposedly dead. The saloon owner's mangled body had been identified as Schiller's. Twenty years pass. Schiller is now aged and unkempt, employed to pick up trash in a park. He sees his own family go to a cemetery and place a wreath on his grave. Following other scenes in a Christmas snowstorm, Schiller makes his way to his former home, where he sees that the son whom he had taught to play violin is now a successful musician. He walks away, carrying in his pocket a dollar that his son has given him, not recognizing that the old tramp was his father.—Anonymous

Storyline: Not knowing what else to do, Georgia Thursday contacts her estranged ex-husband, alcoholic Max Thursday, after their toddler son, Jeff, goes missing, Max a former NYPD detective now the house detective of the rundown Brooklyn establishment, the Riverview Hotel, run by his streetwise friend, Smitty, who gave him a job and a room when nobody arguably would. Georgia did not go to the police as her now missing brother Fred Mace's disreputable associate Dr. Elder threatened her against doing so in he probably having something to do with the missing pair. As such, Max goes on a quest for Jeff and by association Fred with the only lead they have, namely Dr. Elder, with help from Smitty who knows, through experience, the grittier side of most urban streets in the United States than most. In the process, Max comes to believe that their disappearance most-likely centers on a criminal with the code name St. Paul, with Jeff solely being an innocent bystander in whatever criminal activity is going on.
