#2. Scottsboro: An American Tragedy (2000)

Storyline: A look at the infamous "Scottsboro Boys" case that occurred in Alabama in 1931, in which nine young black men were arrested, tried and quickly convicted in the rape of two white women, despite overwhelming evidence that showed their accusers had falsely accused them and the fact that one of the women later admitted that no rape had in fact occurred (although both had had sexual relations with their boyfriends on the day prior to the "rape"). The case was one of the first that shined a spotlight on what many called the "legal lynchings" that occurred in the South whenever blacks were accused of crimes, especially against whites and most especially against white women.—frankfob2@yahoo.com

#3. I Am Not a Witch (2017)

Storyline: Following a banal incident in her local village, 8-year old girl Shula is accused of witchcraft. After a short trial she is found guilty, taken into state custody and exiled to a witch camp. At the camp she takes part in an initiation ceremony where she is shown the rules surrounding her new life as a witch. Like the other residents, Shula is tied to a ribbon which is attached to a coil that perches on a large truck. She is told that should she ever cut the ribbon, she'll be cursed and transformed into a goat.

#4. Dangerous Evidence: The Lori Jackson Story (1999)

Storyline: African-American Marine Corporal Lindsay Scott (Richard Yearwood) is charged with raping another Marine's wife, a white woman, near the Quantico military base in Virginia. Civil rights activist Lori Jackson (Lynn Whitfield), who has no formal legal training, takes on the case. After Scott is convicted -- despite a lack of evidence -- Jackson refuses to give up, instead using the power of the media to fight the considerable forces of the military justice system and seek freedom for Scott.
