Short Review

Yeesh...This film had the potential to be so good, the plot sounded awesome. The first scene where they catch the mermaid is a bit of a joke ***spoilers ahead*** - two random blokes sitting in a fisherman's pub just randomly decide to go on a week-long stake-out and catch a mermaid...and then to make sure the mermaid doesn't escape the plan is to cut off its tail...not bring rope or chains to hold the mermaid down, they're going to cut it in half and ‘sell it in two pieces'. So off they go to sea and wow a mermaid actually does appear, but neither of them are particularly shocked to have caught it. Instead it's straight to business - go and get the axe and chop off its tail. A struggle ensues which is witnessed by a younger guy who's out to sea on his own boat, after watching for a short time from a distance he stealthily boards the fisherman's boat...but is he going to help the mermaid? Nope. Is he going to steal her and try and sell her instead? Also nope. It turns out he's a doctor/psycho killer who wants to take the mermaid into his mental hospital and observe/torture her.The rest of the movie just went downhill from there for me. I spent most of the time watching this film confused, waiting and waiting for it to get better and to make sense. There doesn't seem to be a plot, the scenes jump around with no real explanation as to why, none of the characters really have a backstory - it's just so random.I don't usually leave bad reviews but I felt like I should for this film to save others wasting their time. Sorry!
