Short Review

An entertaining, sometimes violent story about a young man who leaves his safe home to find medicine to cure his mortally ill mother (played by Lucy Liu), guided by rumors that 1,000 miles to the north a settlement specializes in all kinds of drugs. Along the way he is captured by the brutal, evil gang leader played by James Franco. The gang leader commands a newly-activated super-human android played by the lovely English actress Suki Waterhouse. The android develops a conscience and escapes the evil gang leader with the young man. The remainder of the movie involves their continued journey to procure the medicine and return it to the young man's mother. The film is shot entirely in the southeastern California desert and is very picturesque. This film seems to be a victim of the herd mentality much like "Waterworld" was. Once critics and enough of the audience decide a movie is 0% crap, it's fate is sealed. Admittedly, character development was thin, the transformation of the lovely android could have been fleshed out more, and post-apocalyptic stories have become a cliche, but the basic storyline was good and the cinematography was well done. Will it win any awards? Decidedly no. Was it entertaining and worthy of a higher rottentomatoes score? Yes.
