Storyline

Josef Shweik, a dealer in stolen dogs, is called up to fight in World War One. Once in the army the "idiotic" good soldier is imprisoned, certified insane, half starved to death, lost at cards, and almost hanged as he makes his reluctant way towards the front line and almost certain death. However, the good soldier has one final triumphant "idiocy" in reserve. Based on Jaroslav Hask's classic conic novel, The Good Soldier Shweik is a funny and moving anti-war 2D animation cartoon for those who like their humor black and their Christmases white.—Robert Crombie

Short Review

Having never heard of this I was expecting a cheap and nasty low budget production, but it's surprisingly enjoyable with good effects and excellent acting throughout. If the editing had been a little tighter in the first half, it would have been a genuinely good movie. As it is, the narrative gets a little lost between scenes, but it all comes together in the end. Stick with it. There's enough in it to enjoy, but remember it is mostly aimed at kids!!
