A new schoolteacher arrives in the town of Ainsley, which is in the middle of a milk strike that has caused heated feelings among the local dairy farmers. One of the teacher's new students is a cynical boy who is prone to fighting. When she takes an interest in him, she learns that he lives with his father, a shell-shocked war veteran. Meanwhile, the son of the hard-line dairy owner is pursuing her, despite her resistance to his attentions.—Snow Leopard

Rooney's cartoony stereotype performance in Breakfast At Tiffany's is an example how one bad outing can color an entire career to the detriment of a performer, but the man had the chops, and many of his works prove just that (even if public memory could be damning). He literally is the star stuff that dreams are made of (cinema dreams) in this moving tale of a youngster cursed under the drunken shadow of the father he idolizes. A caring teacher sees his potential and reaches out to the recalcitrant youth before his errant proclivities are set in stone. This is an undiscovered gem.
